Director Planned Parenthood
Yet hailing the virtue and singing the praise of Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, on March 28th, 2012 current Planned Parenthood director, Cecile Richards, continued to deliver Planned Parenthood's new marketing strategy at Princeton University upon the invitation of the Woodrow Wilson School of Keeping Politics Out Of Women's Health. Mrs. Richards delivered much information regarding the current political climate and the future marketing efforts of the Planned Parenthood organization which aims at avoiding the legislative process at all costs.
For the most part she claimed that a political disconnect, driven by political and social conservatives has created a hostile environment for Planned Parenthood in the political arena. Significant political pressure has been levied to restrict "the delivery of health services to women" and potentially eliminate federal funding of the organization itself. In short there is a threat to the future viability of the organization which claims that they are much more than an abortion agency delivering multiple services directed towards "woman's health" in general.
Note This Right Here: NOBODY wants less for women's health. However, what we want is the LIE of Planned Parenthood to cease and for them to stop performing abortions with taxpayer dollars and claiming that it is an equivalent issue of women's health such as mammograms and annual exams. This is a LIE as less than 1% of all abortions are because of any emergency medical care necessary to save the mother's life.
Back to the issue:
While it may be true that Planned Parenthood has diversified their services and claim that their organization is geared towards the distribution of information and "women's health" in general, the fact yet remains that abortion services, all while being only 3% of total overall annual activity of the organization, (having served 3 million people and performed 329,445 abortions this is actually 11% of their customers) is yet the core or premium service for Planned Parenthood.
The $$$ Billion $$$ Dollar Giant
While it is hard to determine an actual dollar amount received for abortions only, according to Planned Parenthood's 2010 annual report governmental reimbursements for all services were approximately $487.4 Million while Planned Parenthood assets were approximately $1,009,600,000.00. (Yes that's over $1 Billion Dollars) The knowledge of this has sparked considerable commentary from many pro-life advocates and organizations such as the one headed by Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, which has stated the following regarding the sheer assets of Planned Parenthood:

"With over a billion in net assets and a business model centered on abortion and government subsidies, it is time for Planned Parenthood to end its reliance on taxpayer dollars,”...“Despite an unprecedented effort by statewide and federal leaders to defund them, a wave of former employees willing to testify against them, and uniform agreement amongst Republican presidential candidates that they should be defunded, Planned Parenthood continues full-steam ahead.”...“They are unwilling to answer to the pro-life American majority that wants out of this business,”
- The average age of youth first sexual activity is 17
- 60% of those needing the services of Planned Parenthood under age 18 also live in poverty
- Youth ages 15-24 acquire approximately 50% of all STD's the disproportionate majority of them are black.
- Planned Parenthood estimates that the cost for unintended pregnancy ranges from $11-12 Billion annually
- 90% of Planned Parenthood services are preventive
- Planned Parenthood distributes 2.2 million units of birth control annually (condoms, pills, or otherwise)
Certainly with all of this at stake, one need not be confused with the numbers, just support the organization because, after all, it is for a good cause???
Youth Education, Texting & Internet Marketing The Waive Of The Future
Mrs. Richards outlined the strategy of Planned Parenthood moving forward, which not only bypasses state legislatures and government intervention, but takes the message directly to the public in order to sway public opinion as if to say "We're not your parents abortion and family planning agency any longer...we're your new health services provider" and the youth are definitely the target of Planned Parenthood moving forward.
Social Media ~ A New Frontier
According to Planned Parenthood statistics, last year over 3 million individuals walked through a Planned Parenthood door to receive services or information on issues pertaining to woman's health. That number however, paled in comparison to the 4 million persons that accessed their website in just one month (Feb. 2012).
Planned Parenthood was able to successfully stop the Susan G. Komen organization dead in its tracks by mobilizing over 1.3 million tweets, and promoting additional social netwerk interactions creating negatively publicity that Komen may never overcome. The focus of their argument was that Komen wanted to stop funding women's health care, when the reality was and is that Planned Parenthood continues to come under gevernmental scrutiny and investigation from unethical and immoral practices, many of which are related to the abortion services that they provide. It was a shame that Komen cowered, but if one stands for nothing they will fall for anything.
Planned Parenthood also feels that they can take their message directly to the public through Facebook, Tumbler, and internet blogs sympathetic to their cause. So the internet war is just heating up.
You MUST HAVE A Cell Phone
Texting, website and internet activity is certainly the waive of the future for Planned Parenthood. Because 700,000 teens have an unwanted pregnancy annually and they also have cell phones (even if they do live in poverty) Planned Parenthood knows that they can reach them by text because
80% of youth sleep with the cell phones
The average youth sends and receives 3500 texts per month
What She Didn't Mention?
Yes you read it right. According to a recent article in Charisma Magazine Online, under the leadership of what must be the most blind religious leaders in modern history, Planned Parenthood of Six Rivers Eureka, CA. plans to PRAY Planned Parenthood's way into public acceptance over 40 days listing 40 different prayers for all of those involved in abortions and asking God to bless everyone EXCEPT the baby that that is murdered through their efforts. What makes this so mind twisting is that the prayer event is sponsored by a group called "Clergy for Choice" who claim to be "religious leaders who value every life"
Obviously prayer isn't in the core mission of Planned Parenthood, but anything will help them continue to do what they believe is their mission to the world.
Lest We Never Forget
With all of that said, Mrs. Richards NEVER once decries anything that the former founder of Planned Parenthood said or did. In fact, Margaret Sanger is held as a pioneer and none of her words or mission has ever been retracted by Planned Parenthood as far as I am aware.
