The "Prophecy"???...What Is Going On At New Birth?

OK, A LOT of things have happened since I have been away from the "pen" aka: computer blogosphere, but you know what, the more things change, the more they stay the same...

THANK YOU to all those readers who continue to come to this site for information, edification and a biblical examination of this world and what we experience in it.  Like the song says, I believe "the best is yet to come"...

There is so much going on, one can easily be overwhelmed with the news...political, social, education, international affairs...I mean what is not in turmoil at this time? That's why I AM NOT sitting idle, waiting on a phone call or as the song says, "for the world to change"! Nope, not me...TIME to move forward, away from the influence of man, organizations and whatever and whomever hinders the vision of God in my life...

With all that said, I just HAD to deal with a prophecy recently received regarding a certain pastor/community leader/marijuana farmer...YES, you guessed it....JAMAL, is back at it again...Well, let me get it right...he didn't do anything. It was an alleged "word from the Lord" that came to him in a particular service that has people all over (believe me, only them that know the real and heard this mess or even care) are talking about it. 

A Message From The Lord???????

Be clear, the ONLY way we should examine the Word Of God is through the lens of the Word Of God. Sorry to be a "party pooper" but GOD says what he means and means what HE says! The first way I know that this alleged "word" isn't from the throne room is because God is not confused...he doesn't deal in "imperfections" or "character flaws"...he deals with SINS, SALVATION and FAITH. In addition, any minister commissioned with delivering HIS word, is charged above all things, to be faithful in delivery and failure to do all results in condemnation.  

Secondly, how can a person say "YES" to God and continue to deal in unrighteousness? ie: at some point, a person continuing in sin, has said...NO!...They are not yielding to God. This causes everything said further to come under suspicion and rightfully so. 

Significance? Why Does This Matter? 

We can answer this question by stating that it mattered to the early church or biblical church what God was saying, how he was saying it, and through whom it was said. Have you read 1 John 4? And that is just the start.

This is very significant. First, every believer should be able to "hear" the voice of the Lord. Beyond that, are we to assume that God somehow doesn't care about the firestorm of turbulence and even life changing effects left in the wake of those who sin and continue their evil? I mean, I could go on, but GOD himself brought what can only be deemed to be judgement into an environment in which 400 counts of sexual abuse and misconduct occurred and thousands were damaged as a result. Then, from Baltimore, a man who had completely torn up his family with illicit lovers and a horrible community standing, took over, but somehow, you tell me that God doesn't seem to care???...Then, this "word" goes on to pronounce that the prayers of the one that did the most egregious evil probably recorded in American Black church history, are still being received and answered (ok, argue about that, but we let God be God) and that a man who was caught in sins and destroyed people the same way, multiple times only has "imperfections" and "character flaws"???

BOY BYE!!!! Hasta luego!!! Au revoir!!! GOOD NIGHT!!!!

So long and such a SAD song!!!! 

My goodness, is that what we think of God? We have been seduced by those who continue in their sins (operative word, CONTINUE) as they have seduced the masses into accepting nearly anything "in the name of the Lord" even if it is inconsistent with God's character as revealed within HIS Word!

OK, look, take a look at this "prophetic word" and analyze it for yourself...I have spoken far too much, but, I said in response and I will say now..."HANANIAH has spoken, now Let GOD speak" (and I mean no insult or harm towards the messenger, as I DO NOT know him)

For sure, noone has to argue over it, we'll just watch it play out and in the end, GOD WILL SPEAK!

Preachers of LA, A Jakes Condemnation & A Why?

It seems that Bishop Jakes, like many of us, got good, sick and tired of the mess that aired claiming to be "Preachers" of LA". On Sunday Oct. 13 Jakes said this among other things:

“So let the work I’ve done speak for me. You are sowing into good ground. And the 300 families that are employed in this ministry eat from this ministry, work in this ministry, and help us to produce the excellence that we do," he explained. "The natives all over Kenya drink water because of this ministry. And the hospital in Nairobi survives because of this ministry.” ~ Bishop TD Jakes

The first episode of the show, displayed preachers trying to explain their failures, their excesses, their misuse of personal freedoms and liberties and most of all the reason why they feel that can and should materially "have it all" at the expense of their churches and those that follow them.  

Servant Of All

Mark 10:43-45 ~ 43-But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: 44-And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. 45-For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Not so say the Preachers of LA. It is the congregations job and the community of faith's job to "serve" the needs of their leader.

Now, before one goes too far. It is in biblical order to minister to the needs of the those whom god has set in leadership and who's job it is to tend to the flock of God. Paul says as much in Galations 6:6

Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.

The word "communicate" ( Gk: κοινωνέω) Which according to Thayer means: 

*to come into communion or fellowship, to become a sharer, be made a partner: as in Greek writings with the genitive of the thing, and *to enter into fellowship, join oneself as an associate, make oneself a sharer or partner: as in Greek writings, with the dative of the thing, *to make another's necessities one's own as to relieve them

This word and verse deals with monetary and financial issues as well as other things. So there is biblical precedent for sharing of the needs from the congregation to their teacher(s) or leader(s), however does this in any way symbolize or translate into a lifestyle of opulence for the one being "communicated" to?

"Watch This" Pt. 10 ~ Bishop Eddie Long "Takes A Little Time Off"

Jeremiah 33:14-18 ~ "14-Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. 15-In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. 16-In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness. 17-For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel; 18-Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually."

I'm sorry, my initial report was wrong and one can view the video below the commentary to see why...the bishop has decided to take an extended and undetermined vacation to deal with family issues. He didn't say that he was relinquishing the pulpit or the pastorate and didn't say that he was "stepping down" from being pastor as many are saying including the commentary page that I am referencing. Watch the video and tell me what you think, it's pretty clear to me. The bishop is going on a "potentially" long sabbatical.

"Watch This" Pt. 8 ~ When It Crashes It Really Burns!

I said I wasn't going to do another one of these on this man. This after all is Pt. 8. So for that I repent!

To be clear, I understand the foreclosure. That can happen to anyone and Lord help us all financially...BUT, does anyone hear what I hear in this video at about 1:28? Long was scheduled to give a DEPOSITION in another sexual harassment lawsuit filed against his ministry and another employee??? WOW!

The Call For Bishop Eddie Long To Repent?

In a stark contrast to Bishop T.D. Jakes who said that there is nothing that can be done regarding Eddie Long except prayer (and we know that prayer is always in order), and that he along with everyone else just needs "the blood of Jesus" while pointing to his "blood bucket" both for himself and others to cover all of our sins; Bishop Paul S. Morton, however has joined many of us in calling for Bishop Eddie Long to repent regarding the recent sex and ethical scandal that has enveloped and threatens to destroy his ministry. Here's a recent message regarding the issue:

Surprisingly, ministers such as Creflo Dollar have stated that Bishop Long simply had a "wreck" and that he should keep on moving and everybody should go home because in essence, like a Keystone cop, "there's nothing to see here". Bishop T.D. Jakes assesses the situation as a "recent tragedy" and that Bishop Long is under a great amount of "scruitiny". This is language that certainly softens the emphasis of what has really happened and doesn't really point toward repentance of any kind.

Watch This Pt. 7..."This Thing, I'm Gon'e Settle!"

In what will be the conclusion of a mini-series and seeming documentary on a form of clergy sexual misconduct, and modern idolatry, the Bishop Eddie Long and his accusers have come to what appears to be an amicable settlement satisfying the unconditional approval of his New Birth,  megachurch faithful and multiple extended followers all around the world.

"I am not gonna try this case in the media. It will be tried in the court of justice and dealt with in the court of justice"..."I've been accused, I'm under attack. I want you to know as I said earlier, I am not a perfect man; but this thing, I'm gon'e fight. And I want you to know one other thing, I feel like David, against Goliath but I got 5 rocks, and I haven't thrown one yet."

Privacy Is The Word

The bishop's words may have indicated "fight" and "court" but in the end, a court-battle was the last thing that the bishop wanted. As stated, the settlement avoided the disclosure of details and greater embarrassment on all sides. It appears to be a sealed affair at this point however, it is hard to tell as final agreements and conditions are being made (more than likely) for an undisclosed monetary amount and a measurable plan of action by either Bishop Long, the ministries involved or all parties. The young men, Anthony Flagg, Spencer LeGrande, Jamal Parris and Maurice Robinson , who brought the lawsuit may have been successful in their desire to stop Bishop Long from any further future perceived impropriety against others by exposing the bishop, but may have also, at the same time, lost credibility if monetary conditions are the only ones set forth as a result of the agreement.

As stated, we may never know the real requirements on either side of this agreement as it seems that the terms may actually be permanently closed. The lawyer for the plaintiffs B. J. Bernstein simply stated that there would be no commentary:

"...on this matter, now or in the future."

The Man Worship Continues 

When we first talked about this story in our podcast, "What Has The Church Become?" I explained that the worshipful nature of how the church received Long especially in light of the scope of the allegations, was disturbing. At the 8:00 AM Service, the crowd cheered and praised him for almost a full 2 minutes and greeted him as if he had conquered the last villain on earth.

The members of New Birth persist in a form of idolatry of the bishop. What we can readily observe is beyond pure support for a member of the Body of Christ. Many of them have entered into a place of unconditional acceptance where there is clearly no standard of accountability required for the bishop. In other words, some of them have basically told the bishop, "we don't care what you do, we'll follow, believe, and support you no matter what!" Neither of these sentiments are biblical, nor do they display the nature or love of God. Yes, God loves unconditionally, but unconditional acceptance breeds responsibility. Where there is no responsibility in response to unconditional love, there is only abuse and excess which will always lead to greater evil.  

The failure to understand the requirements of unconditional love is disturbing. Not just for New Birth, but for for all them that seek to define the difference between honoring their leader and standing by their church and worshiping an individual and exalting an individual over and above God, HIS standards and HIS precepts. Much of the commentary about the bishop from his members is almost indiscernible from worship directed toward God himself.   

For example, the Atlanta Journal Constitution  reports members to state:

As it pertains to the undisclosed nature of the settlement:

"I'm still steadfast,"..."I know what he's done in my life, and I know what he has done in the lives of others." ~ member Rasheedah Oliver

This sounds like an individual talking about the God of heaven. Unfortunately, this sister is talking about Eddie Long and rationalizing what he has done in her life and done in the lives of others to be the standard by which she is committed to the ministry and ultimately the bishop.  As it pertains to the possible improprieties and scope of the allegations themselves and private settlement, another member stated:

"It doesn't make me think he's guilty or anything,"..."I decided when this came out that I loved my pastor unconditionally. Even if he came out and grabbed the mic and said ‘I'm guilty,' it wouldn't change the way I feel about him. I wouldn't be angry like a lot of people are. You can't walk away after 15 years of being a member of a church."..."He's done 1,000 good things,"..."and he may or may not have done four really bad things." ~ member Kamelya Hinson

Once again, this sister states that it wouldn't matter to her if the bishop told everyone that he was guilty of all charges, she loves him and is attached to him without condition. She further states that no matter the 4 "really bad things" that he has done, he's done an insurmountable number of good things, therefore he and it is OK.

Now, the sad thing is that each of the 4 lawsuits contained over 100 counts of improper, unethical and ungodly behavior by the bishop against his victims. Most of the suits included coersion, misappropriation of funds and even one that claimed that the bishop not only performed oral sex on his victims, but that he also performed oral sodomy. This member skirts by some of the most low-life accusations that could be brought against a person and states that none of that matters, even IF he is guilty and reduces some over 400 counts of impropriety and clergy sexual misconduct to simply "4 bad things"...

This is unbelievable! This is IDOLATRY! This is having another God beside, before, and in the presence of, the ONE AND ONLY God of creation. Without doubt, this is against the word of the Lord God himself as he has outlined not only the 1st Commandment but the entire word of God as God mandates our object of worship to be toward him and him alone.  

Isaiah 45: 5-6 ~ "5-I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: 6-That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else."

Where Is The Time Of Reconciliation And Restoration?

2 Cor. 5:18-19 ~ "18-And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19-To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."

With the seriousness of the accusations against this pastor, which not only alleged ungodly behavior, but revealed severe and pervasive psychological issues for either the accusers (if lying) or the defendant (if accusations are true), one would think that at a very least there would be some time given and an extension for all sides and parties to heal. 

What really drives this point home is that obviously, the bishop in his initial response, did not deny the core allegations against his person or ministry. What he certainly did deny was the allegations of sexual abuse and manipulation levied against himself. Remember, that the allegations included the bishop used money and fame to manipulate the environment, flash material possessions to impress, and use his status to gain access to emotions and feelings that were otherwise off limits. The allegations were also that the bishop used his influence, title and position in a manner unbecoming of bishopric and pastoral leaders. 

However, the spokesperson for the church simply stated that the decision to settle as opposed to fight in court was made

"to bring closure to this matter and to allow us to move forward with the plans God has for this ministry." and that "This resolution is the most reasonable road for everyone to travel," 

What this means is that business regarding this was handled like any other business that should be handled to position the ministry to move on to the next grand adventure. Reconciliation and restoration were not goals of the settlement. "Moving forward with plans" was the whole objective. What this also could mean is that there was enough damaging information on both sides of the case that in the end it would more than likely resemble WW III as opposed to a church, a Christian leader and 4 abused and disappointed followers.

Either way, this is certainly much less than God would require of any and or all of us when confronted with this or similar issue.

Conclusion

We are thankful that this ordeal seems to be over, however neither the Body Of Christ, the modern mega church or any of the parties involved, nor members were edified as a result of this case. We were only brought to more of an open shame.

Some say, "why talk about it, let's move on". That sort of sentiment causes them that buy into it, to miss what God is trying to show us. I believe what he is saying is that our Idols are inadequate and anything built and established by flesh and materialism will not and cannot stand judgement of the Lord. Evidently, neither this pastor nor this church and ministry could stand the judgement of men, yet alone the judgement of God. However, believe me, he will judge. 

Revelation 20:12-13 ~ 12-And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13-And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works."

"Watch This" Pt. 6 ~ "A Different Scale" Weighed And Found Wanting

You see, we remember when Bishop Eddie Long wasn't content to just be one of us. He like Juanita II had to be ABOVE us and greater than us all. The command of money and crowd reveals the faults that already exist. Even in that, being above others is OK if God has placed you there, but remember that to whom much is given much is required.(Lk.12:48) We must remember what Eddie said:

"We're not just a church, we're an international corporation. We're not just a bumbling bunch of preachers who can't talk and all we're doing is baptizing babies. I deal with the White House, I deal with Tony Blair, I deal with presidents around this world. I pastor a multi-million dollar congregation. You've got to put me on a different scale than the little Black preacher sitting over there {who's} supposed to be just getting by because the people are suffering." ~ Bishop Eddie Long ATL Journal Constitution 2005

Self-Exaltation Does Fail:

Now, after vowing to "fight" and show the world his innocence, I guess he has found that it's cheaper to keeper secret, and paying a private settlement is better than having all the ungodly details of what he actually he did fully examined in the public square. At least Mother Long may get a husband back after this. So that's a good thing!

Accusers...sell yourselves to this man again for his money, but none of what you said you wanted to accomplish will happen. The danger that you wanted to keep other potential victims from will continue on, but you won't be able to say that you didn't have your chance to make a difference neither will you be able to say that you did make a difference and that would be a tragedy especially after all of this.

"Watch This" Pt. 5 ~ The Bishop's Response

As he said, he wanted to do his talking in court and not in the media. There are some specific reasons for this. Here is the latest information on Bishop Eddie Long's response to allegations of sexual abuse and clergy sexual misconduct.



The Bishop's response to each individual complaint can be found by clicking the following PDF file links, however it is clear that the Bishop believes that he is innocent of any sexual misconduct allegations, and that the court should drop all charges and make the plaintiff's pay all costs associated with the whole mess.

Interestingly enough Bishop Long offers a section called "Affirmative Defense" beginning on pg. 25 of the 32 pg PDF. Under AD 3 he states that the complaint should be barred (the lawsuit against him) because of the Statute of Limitations. Stating that even if true the complaint took too long to surface from realization of damage to allegation and suit. Under AD 6 he claims the suit should be denied because of "the doctrine of unclean hands" specifying that the court should also consider the plaintiff to be at fault for his circumstance.

2- Spencer LeGrande PDF

This too is a very interesting denial of allegations in what is probably the most sexually charged lawsuit filed. According to the Bishop, on trips his room was always open to everyone traveling with him, meals were for the group and at no time did any of the intimate details of the allegations occur, although there may have been an occassion when they were innocently and incidently alone.

This one is interesting in that Jamal Parris claims that he accompanied Bishop Long to San Francisco on occassion under his claim, allegation 45. In the Bishop's response he claims that he has never been to San Francisco period (pg9). As I stated, somebody is lying. Who is it?

"Watch This" Pt. 4~ "You Are Not A Man, You're A Monster!"

Jamal Parris, the eldest plaintiff in the sexual misconduct suit currently levied against Bishop Eddied Long, New Birth MB Church and LongFellows Academy looks into the camera and send a message directly to the bishop regarding his filed sexual abuse lawsuit. Here is what he had to say to Fox 5 of Atlanta:



On one side there is a church cheering it's leader. On the other there is at least 4 young men who share essentially the same or similar story and clearly outline what seems to be a horrific story of both manipulation, guilt, and confusion which has led to a horribly damaged worldview and memories that cannot be erased.

The following from Atlanta V-103's Wed. AM interview with the Fox News I-Team and lead reporter Dale Russell who also spent over 3 years investigating the BVishop Earl Paulk scandal which yet continues at some level to this day.

Could this be a shakedown of epic proportions? Or could the bishop have followed the steps of Earl Paulk thinking that he could escape? Let God be the judge but we have nothing to be proud of in this...at all.

The apostle Of Inclusion

The Pearson/Inclusionist Lie: "Usually the people that speak the most vociferously against something, are dealing with it in their own lives."

The Truth:

1- Jesus spoke most vociferously against sin and transgression against God. Was he dealing with it in his own life?

Absolutely NOT!

2 Cor. 5:21 ~ "For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

2- Paul spoke vociferously against sin and the transgression of God and his law. Was he dealing with it in his own life? The apostates of this world want you to believe that, but the truth is the LIGHT, Paul WASN'T a sinner for Christ.

3- The OT Prophets, NT Apostles and all books of the bible speak vociferously against sin, many even naming homosexuality as one of those sins. Are we to assume that both the writers of these books and holy men of God were dealing with "it" in their own lives?

We would be deceived if we didn't already know the truth. This may fit the court of public opinion and human righteousness, but it fails to satisfy the standard of holiness and righteousness of God. We are not deceived with smooth orators and vain words, neither are any of us ashamed to stand against sin, unrighteousness and perversion.

(CNN) -- Two Georgia men have filed suit claiming that prominent Atlanta pastor Eddie Long coerced them into sex. The suits, filed Tuesday in DeKalb County, Georgia, allege that Long used his position as a spiritual authority and bishop to coerce young male members and employees of his New Birth Missionary Baptist Church into sex. Long took one plaintiff, Anthony Flagg, 21, to overnight trips to a half dozen American cities, Flagg's suit alleges.

"Long shared a bedroom and engaged in intimate sexual contact with plaintiff Flagg including kissing, massaging, masturbating of plaintiff Flagg by defendant Long and oral sexual contact," the suit says.

Long spokesman Art Franklin said Tuesday that "we categorically deny the allegations."

"It is very unfortunate that someone has taken this course of action," he said. "Our law firm will be able to respond once attorneys have had an opportunity to review the lawsuit."

The suits are seeking unspecified amounts of punitive damages from Long on various counts, ranging from negligence to breach of fiduciary duty.

Update: 9/22/2010: Here's Number Three

A 3rd person has filed suit against Bishop Eddie Long, at the Dekalb County court, accusing him of using his power as pastor and mentor, to seduce him into having sexual relations with him, states CNN.
23 year old Jamal Parish, from the same church, has alleged that Long has been having sexual encounters with him since he was 16 years old and lasted until he was 22, which was last year.
CNN reports that a spokesperson has informed the media that Bishop Long will hold a press conference on Thursday morning to answer these allegations.

Some have been asking if sexual abuse took place, why didn't the young men seek prosecution. The legal age for consensual sex in Georgia, is 17. 2 of 3 accusers say they were 17 and older when the alleged sexual misconduct started, which may be the reason for the civil lawsuits instead.

Didn't I just say, let the evidence speak for itself. The Lord will reveal all now won't he?

I would like to add that even though there has been speculation for years regarding this, I pray with ALL that is within me that these stories are untrue. This would be a travesty upon the countless children and families that looked to this ministry and to the cause of Christ and the black church in general. There are many lessons that can be learned BUT I hope that learning that one cannot mix sin with righteousness IS NOT one of them.
