When Plan "A" Fails

As noted in "False Prophet~Countdown To Apostasy", In what was one of the worlds most critical events of the church in modern times, the ministry of Harold Camping was once again,  and hopefully for all times, put to shame. Since we are all here May 22nd, 2011 Harold Camping has once again been PROVEN to be a liar and a false prophet. Having told Reuters prior to yesterday that there was no possible way that he was wrong about this one, he further stated that:
"There is no plan B"
In other words according to Harold himself, his doctrine was not meant to fail or miss its target date regarding the rapture. Having spent over $100 million to buy billboards and to promote his message, the false prophecy of the Camping rapture was one of the most expensive lies ever perpetuated in modern times.

About the only thing worse than camping's manipulation of his followers, was the Bernie Madoff scandal which also devastated lives and bilked millions from unsuspecting families and individuals. Singlehandedly, Harold Camping and his avowed faithful followers have set back a rational approach to biblical prophecy and the message of Christianity to almost the dark ages, by promoting a lie of epic proportions, not just once or twice, but multiple times, and refusing to listen to correction in effort to prove superior revelation and servitude toward God. You see Harold rejected everyone else within Christianity even claiming that noone could be saved after 1994 but those who would listen to and follow him.

Proverbs 16:18 ~ "Pride goeth before destruction, and
an haughty spirit before a fall."

Be clear, the LIE is not that there will be a rapture. However, the Lie of Camping was that HE, in isolation, knew exactly when the rapture would occur and that according to him, all the rest of the church was rejected by God as God had revealed all the secrets to only him and his adherents.

Fallout:

Not only were the unrighteous supported in their rejection of God by the foolishness of Harold Camping, but there is a deeper psychological and emotional effect of Campings apostate ramblings and the extent to which he went to spread his lie.

People quit their jobs, people sold their worldly possessions and some even killed loved ones in preparation for the events supposedly interpreted by Camping. For example:

Joel Martinez and his 27 year old pregnant wife Adrienne did some drastic things because of Camping.

  • Adrienne decided not to attend medical school after she listened to Camping on Family Radio.
  • Both quit their jobs
  • Moved from New York City to Orlando to spend the last supposed year they had on Earth reading the Bible,
  • Began distributing tracts and spending time with their two-year-old daughter.

They told NPR
"We budgeted everything so that, on May 21, we won't have anything left,"
Thankfully they at least did spend time with their child, but what else was uprooted in the process?

Robert Fitzpatrick took his whole life savings of over $140,000 sinking it into promoting the Camping Doomsday message on1,000 subway car placards and at bus shelters throughout New York city.

He told the New York Daily News

'I'm trying to warn people about what's coming. People who have an understanding [of end times] have an obligation to warn everyone"

Mr. Fitzpatrick had and has a tremendously good heart, but was unfortunately tremendously deceived into believing a costly lie. I am so sorry that it had to be this way.

Abby Haddad-Carson and her husband Robert. Abby quit her job as a nurse in Maryland nearly two years ago to "sound the trumpet" with  their three teenage children Joseph, Faith and Grace Haddard. Carson reportedly also stopped paying the children's college fund and focused her resources on the rapture.

Her 16 year old daughter Grace, who expressed doubts over Campings predictions and her families direction told the newspaper,
"My mom has told me directly that I'm not going to get into heaven. At first it was really upsetting, but it's what she honestly believes."

How can a parent tell their child something like this and feel justified on any plant in the universe??? What type of devilment is this?

The only good thing is that there are ministries reaching out to Campings followers who were duped into believing this apostate message. For sure if his followers are anything like the ones outlined here, they will need help rebuilding their lives for years to come.

Financial Waste

Now what is amazing to me is the amount of money that is paid and delivered to keep and fund a false and apostate message. One would think that after previous false prophecies and doctrines of abomination that this ministry would fold and whither. The contrary s true however.

According to CNN Camping's ministry received $80 million in contributions between 2005 and 2009  and $18 million of those contributions were received in 2009 alone. In other words funds were abundant toward this apostasy and false teaching.

All of the money spent to fund apostate ministry. What if just some of that was spent to promote sound ministry or to simply minister to the needs of the people? How many homeless could have been fed with just $50 Million over the last 5 to 6 years? There are 30,000 that are homeless in Detroit Michigan every day. What could have been done with that resource to minister to their needs?

Update 5/25/2011: As reported by Oakland North
Throughout the year, as May 21 neared, several news stories reported that a few of Camping’s followers quit their jobs and sold all of their possessions in preparation for the Rapture. However, Camping said at the Monday press conference, he wouldn’t take responsibility for any of this.

“We in Family Radio never tell anyone what they should do with their possessions, that’s between them and God,” he said. “We just had a great recession, there are lots of people that lost their jobs, there are lots of people that lost their houses. Somehow they all survived. People cope.”

Camping followed up by saying that he also wouldn’t return money to anyone. “We still have five more months,” he said. “By October 21st, we may only have $10 left.” Since the world would be ending at that point, he said, no one would need the money then. As far as getting rid of his own possessions, he said that would be pointless since he’ll need his house and car until the last day. “Why would I give it all away?” he said. “What would be the value of that?”
Conclusion

It's not like Camping offered jewels of wisdom on his broadcast otherwise. His broadcasts were full of cursing and swearing and were a total apostate tirade against the church in whatever form that church may be (other than his of course) A total cult of the mind and manipulation of God's word as is obviously seen in such a great and expensive way.

Ministries such as The Christian Research institute were vigilant in their opposition of Harold Campings ministry. They should be thanked, but the question is what more can people do to help bring people away from false ideas such as these??? Will the people FINALLY wake up and go back to TRUE servitude and following Christ? Will the people leave false doctrine and embrace and support the truth more eagerly than they supported a lie? It is exasperating to say the least to consistently warn against apostasy and false teachers only to be glossed over. But the consequences are great. Lives change. Individuals are devastated and faith is crushed.

2 Thess. 2:1-41-Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2-That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3-Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4-Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God"

The consequences are great and the devastation is insurmountable. Those who use the bible to find some sort of secret code whereby they will be exalted are an abomination and an affront to Christianity. Those who continue to support heresies such as Campings do not do the Lord a service. A person can be deceived one time and that is understandable. But for a person to continue in and after deception has been revealed is quite another thing.
Persons who take that position do the Lord the greatest disservice especially once the truth has been made known.

One thing is for sure, God certainly didn't use Harold Camping for anything other that to make the church step back up to the real mission of preaching and teaching the TRUTH of God's word. Now that we have seen how far away so many are from biblical truth, what will we do and how will we respond, and what will be the mission of the real church and people of God? I'll conclude with the challenge of Hank Hanegraaff of The Christian Research Institute: "Are You Willing To Do For The Truth What The Cults Are Willing To Do For A Lie?"

Blessed!

  1. Thanks, Dunamis Word for your post. Actually, I am glad that Jesus did not come back yet or that the world did not end yet, and if it had, it would not have been because of Harold Camping! You're right, he is, simply put, a false prophet. I've listened to Family Radio's music for years, because it is soothing and for the most part, scripturally sound; but I never listened to Harold Camping himself for long, for he was just too far out there with his false teachings. Other than the on-air music, I hardly ever gave him the time of day. I would turn him off whenever he came on the air. Now, I read on the EX Times blog that his web site is down. In the Bible, Paul said the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, and it is common knowledge that thieves never tell you when they are coming to burglarize your property! Jesus said he's coming at an hour when you "think not," meaning it is unpredictable and you most likely won't even be expecting him (and maybe not even be thinking about him at that moment) while you perform your daily tasks. I believe that Jesus will return someday; it's just that "someday" was not Saturday, May 21st, 2011!

  2. Heretic Jack Van Impe has set another date of December 2012...So here we go, if somehow we survive as a world past the Oct. 2011 date, then whatever is left and whoever is left will be taken in Dec. of 2012.

How can these false idol idiots be shut down? Why do people continue to support them to get on TV and lie? Are they bankrolling themselves or what?

    This is a shame.

  3. The logical question is:how in the world could people be so stupid?--I mean, the man was wrong in'94--don't these people open their Bibles? Frankly,I have little sympathy for any of them.

  4. Dave,

I say that too. I mean what he was saying was more than just a misinterpretation of a word, or an error about the succession of Paul's missionary journeys. He said that God through the bible revealed what the date of the resurrection was and taught it as FACT. Not just once but TWICE.

Now, Jack Van Impe is jumping on teh bandwagon and most I figure, it's simply a way for them to get some attention, sell some books and evidently raise the inflow of contributions if not but temporarily to promote their type of garbage.

Seems that Miller and those prior did much psychological damage to folk regarding this issue. We know Jesus will come. The command to us is to be ready, not to look for some code or secret message whether it be within teh pages of the bible or some other source.

Once more thing, Camping seemed to have become famous for bashing the church. Calling basically all organized religions apostate and that none of us could be saved associated with any other church or teaching other than his. So we have a bunch of Camping followers, that associated themselves with the Camping lie against the church and now they're out on their behinds...I feel sorry for them, but not so much because they spent and sold all to follow Camping, but because they were so against the church that they aligned themselves with a lie of this magnitude to prove some sort of a point. That's sad to me.

  5. Camping has restated, just as I thought and predicted, that Oct. 21st will be the end, and that Jesus came back spiritually May 21st...Not only has he scrubbed his website, but he is continuing in his apostasy.

Now, this was the same garbage that Ellen G. White stated when Miller's false prophecy was exposed in the 1844.

Now, I want to know, if there is any spiritual insight in the statement (which there is none) What do we do with teh scripture that says that HE (Jesus) will never leave nor forsake us. Read this:

Mt. 28: 19-20~"19-Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20-Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

So the question is, when did Jesus ever "leave" in the sense in which White, Camping and the whole sorted list thinks that he had to come back secretly?
