Fear To VICTORY, Overcoming COGIC Clergy Sexual Abuse & Silence

Fear To Victory, Overcoming COGIC Clergy Sexual Abuse Pt. 3
For The First Time Hear SURVIVORS of COGIC Clergy Sexual Abuse Tell Their Own Story

Since 2007 this ministry has worked hard to fight for and give voice to the victims of sexual abuse and clergy sexual sins within the Church Of God In Christ.  In 2011 Elder D.L. Foster of ReportCOGICAbuse.com and myself conducted a 2 part interview ( COGIC Issues Pt. 1, COGIC Issues Pt. 2) regarding the level and depth of victimization that had taken place within our church. One of the areas that was addressed was the church's failure to acknowledge those who have been victimized by the ungodly actions of certain individuals who simply lived contrary to their faith by  failing to understand the standard of responsibility that they were supposed to have maintained by shepherding the flock of God and protecting those members of it at all times.

1 Pet. 5:2-3 ~ "2-Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3-Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock."

Although we are are glad that the church has taken steps to assure that leaders are properly screened and vetted before becoming COGIC pastors and representative leaders, and for what is called a "zero-tolerance policy" against sexual harassment and abuse, we are yet saddened because of the continued culture of silence that exists as it pertains to how the abused are treated, and the overall official church response to such issues of vital importance. Plainly speaking, it seems that the church feels, that it is better to avoid the victims all together, saying nothing to them or their families in any official capacity and, on occasion, writing a check to make victims go away, rather than pouring the healing salve of Jesus.

Over 20 Years In The Making

Needless to say, being unresponsive to victims that have endured hardships and pains, much of which may never fully be told, is a second victimization of those that have been damaged by clergy sexual sins. This victimization is a deafening silence in response to accusations,  and failure to act swiftly in the removal of those who have engaged in criminal activity.

109th Holy Convocation, COGIC IMPACTS & A Safe Church Plan

The 2016 annual Holy Convocation of the Church Of God In Christ (Nov. 7th ~ Nov. 13th) is on the horizon. This year is also an election year within the church with many individuals vieing for position at some level or another.

Schedule For 109th Annual Holy Convocation, click HERE

Current Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake recently unveiled a new church culture initiative called "COGIC IMPACTS" which is bound to be the talk among preachers and church leaders. From the website:
"COGIC IMPACTS is a culture model that will help us build a stronger culture. This model was designed and developed expressly for COGIC and has been introduced by Bishop Blake to COGIC employees and the General Board. COGIC IMPACTS is a deliberate attempt to define our culture and how we will work in tandem."
With the call that "what we do is who we are" COGIC IMPACTS outlines the following regarding the acronym:
Integrity – The quality of being honest and having strong moral uprightness.
Measurable Results – Establishing SMART goals that highlight success.
Passionate – Self-driven attitude about your work that leads to success.
Adaptable – Able to adjust to new conditions.
Collaborative – Working together to create or produce solutions.
Timely Manner – Done Expeditiously
Service Oriented – Providing outstanding service & support to COGIC and on behalf of COGIC.
To enlighten us further on what is being said, the term "SMART" is often accredited to concepts of Time Management and Organizational Objectives produced and presented by Peter Drucker spoken of in 1981 by George T. Doran in an issue of "Management Review". Defining the elements and boarders of good management, the acronym is generally summarized as follows:
Specific
~ Well defined
~ Clear to anyone that has a basic knowledge of the project
Measurable~ Know if the goal is obtainable and how far away completion is
~ Find out when you have achieved your goal
Agreed Upon~ Agreement with all the stakeholders what the goals should be
Realistic~ Within the availability of resources, knowledge and time
Time-Based~ Enough time to achieve the goal
~ Not too much time, which can affect project performance
In essence, the Bishop is calling for a completely new culture in dealing with church management and administrative issues and moving forward as a church. Rather than view projects with emotion, our Bishop seems to be asking that we now view ministry and the causes within ministry with "intent" and with "purposeful planning".

Pushback: "That is not a Spirit led"

Some will invariably view this approach as less "spiritual" than times past in which we were "led of the Spirit" to the extent that we solved and addressed issues first and planned later. It is a more cognitive approach than what we have experienced in the past.

Interfacing "IMPACTS" With Sexual Misconduct & Abuse
While there is very little talk of it in open circles, the 109th Holy Convocation meets us with a host of issues challenging the "I" representing the integrity of many of our leaders. There are some issues regarding sexual impropriety and misconduct among church leaders and even Bishops that have come to the surface. There are some who have decided to live immoral ungodly double-lives. Caught on tape entertaining girlfriends attempting to cover their sins. Still there are others who's personal character is not befitting to leadership, becoming internet trolls, even cussing out individuals who do not agree with them. Then there are yet others who have an ever evolving list and chain of new illegitimate children coming to surface seemingly year after year. In some cases these are the "Eli"(s) who thought that they would not have to answer for their sins, but are sadly confronted with them now like never before.

Then there is Earl Carter who implemented an all out attack on Presiding Bishop Blake leading and encouraging a host of haters to follow his sins, It seems that Earl Carter, so badly wanted the "attention" of the Presiding Bishop, that he recently went to completely new LOW, and sad level of destruction producing a FAKE "sex-tape" allegedly of our Presiding Bishop even against what appears to be an order for him to refrain from his personal attacks on the Bishop. Initially promising to "take down" the leader, it seems that Carter himself is now on the run, being taken down in some fashion trying to dodge his ultimate judgement which he seems to have heaped upon his own head with his never-ending rantings.

For the REAL Victims or Survivors
Ministry of the church is what the church is called to do. Managing an organization, while commendable, is not exactly the mission or commission of the church. With that said, we can ask, what of LEGITIMATE cases that deal with our INTEGRITY as a church? If we are leading into the next generation with integrity as a mandate, how do we plan to deal with victims of sexual abuse and clergy misconduct? Do we think that it is essential to implement a SAFE CHURCH PLAN, that will protect our members and support a level of integrity that we seek?

You see, it is not just good enough to talk about the speed and efficiency at which we do business. We MUST continue to act like and be a CHURCH. In that calling,  it is my firm belief that we must deal with and help those that are the most vulnerable among us and seek to apply the healing salve of Christ to all men, but in particularly to those to whom we have been entrusted to partner with in this spiritual mission

The mission of "I Am My Brother's Keeper Christian Advocacy Council" is exactly this. IMBKCAC is an untapped resource, specifically designed to provide a level of INTEGRITY to the way the church protects and heals the most vulnerable among us. .

What is our average church rating in:
The interface between the Pastor/leader and the congregation?
The interface between the congregation and ministry leaders?
Youth ministry integrity & safety?
Survivor support and path of liberation?
Planned congregational response to issues of sexual integrity & abuse?
Planned path for survivor restoration?
Does a solid network of services designed to heal survivors?
Path of restoration for families?
These are some of the evaluations that IMBKCAC will make in determining if your church, district or jurisdiction is a SAFE ENVIRONMENT. Out of all that we do, if we are not seeking to implement a SAFE CHURCH PLAN, we are falling far short of what we are to do in supporting and creating integrity. In other words, we have undermined the very first part of the acronym of IMPACTS...The "I" or INTEGRITY....

If we are seeking to be a church founded on integrity to biblical values, then we cannot continue to have elections without creating or mentioning a platform that delivers integrity tout every congregation, every district, every jurisdiction and the national church itself. For anyone skeptical of whether we need a SAFE CHURCH PLAN, please listen to these podcasts

COGIC Survivors Pt. 1

COGIC Survivors Pt. 2

COGIC Survivors Pt. 3

If one can hear those broadcasts, and not consider that we should have a sense of urgency in dealing with the issues of victimization in a much better way, then I don't believe that you have the heart of Christ.

In all, I believe that we have some opportunities to serve that we have not previously had or experienced. Will we rise to the challenge of not only an organizational and cultural change of operation, but also a cultural change of how we minister to victims of some of the worst experiences imaginable. I hope so. So far noone says a word. Maybe we will have the opportunity to once again raise the issue.

Blessed!

Image, Assets & Liability Pt. 3...The "COGIC Shuffle"

"We now live in a litigious society. People file lawsuits for every conceivable grievance, whether real or imagined. To protect the name, image, and assets of the Church of God in Christ, we must take positive steps to seriously investigate very case of alleged sexual abuse by the clergy. We must stand behind and support those who are falsely accused of sexual improprieties and found innocent by the courts. We must also insure that the Church act quickly to take firm and positive action against those who violate the sanctity of their positions and are found guilty of sexual abuse and other sexual improprieties.” Bishop Charles Blake, Presiding Bishop Church Of God in Christ Inc. Oct 29, 2007

In PART 1 and PART 2 of this mini-series, I have looked at both secular and church sexual abuse and the fallout associated with it. By now, I hope that we can see that there is a devastating affect upon the complete and entire community when trust is betrayed in this manner. However, what happens when the church looks past sexual abuse and misuse, even when it is discovered years later, only to focus on image, assets and the way we "do things"?

The DIRTY MAN...Is Not Hidden, Can't Stop God & Will Be Judged

As I look back, I see that having embarked on the ministry of sexual abuse was very timely and continues to be life changing and eye opening.

It seems that the message was certainly not overlooked. God gave me a message that would sit right at the dinner table with many of the most vile abusers. I receive information, many times after the fact, of what was done and the impact of my work in helping to bring attention to the issue of church related abuse, and healing of those who survived. I am proud, in Christ, to say, THANK YOU JESUS for the opportunity to serve in this capacity!

While the young lady, whom I will bring focus to in this post, and I have never crossed paths in the City of Chicago, interestingly, her abuser and myself did. Unfortunately, we served in the same Jurisdiction, and at least on one occasion, even ate at the same table. As I reflect, God sent me to the right place at the right time with the right message. My last interaction in that jurisdiction, I was invited to this predator's church in the guise of a Jurisdiction function. I am proud to say, that I told my former Bishop, the Late Bishop Robert Sanders of Il. 3rd Jurisdiction, that I REFUSED to step foot in a known predator/pedophile's church. Although Bishop Sanders has gone on to his eternal reward, to this day, I haven't step foot in, not darkened the door of that church.

Now, you can say what you will...doesn't matter to me...nobody has paid my bills but me/us and to God be the glory!!! I wish that as a church we could make such a bold stance to put these sexual abusers out of business. Yes, they are everywhere, in every denomination and seemingly around every corner. Yes, they need to be in church...I would say on their face getting delivered, but they do not need pulpits, and no matter how vocally acrobatic they can be, they need to SIT DOWN and get saved and stop their abuse and molestation and REPAIR the damage that they have done by abusing, misusing and mishandling God's children. It is NOT a "special gift", as pedophile, serial abuser and demon filled Evangelist Tony Levya once said...He abused and sex trafficked over some 700 boys in his ungodly lifetime. It is a damnable, despicable, pathetic sin worthy of the deepest and lowest parts of hell, and those who do not wish to part from their sins, can't go there fast enough in my opinion.

OK...I got that out...let's get on to the real story at hand...

In 2020, GerVaise Sarah Guyton, at one time, the alleged God-daughter of this particular pedophile freak minister, whom she calls "DIRTY MAN" and "DDM Sr" and titled her book after, was thankfully able to enter into her deliverance and expose the sins of this rejected and clearly unrepentant minister.

In an explicit and no holds barred manner, Mrs. Guyton reveals the truth and goes in depth to the nitty-gritty of the rape and molestation that she experienced and into the depts of the sins that she survived. In this book, "DIRTY MAN A MEMOIR OF HEALING AND DELIVERANCE FROM SEXUAL ABUSE" Mrs. Guyton uncovers this serial pedophile minister who preys on young girls, seeking to defile them, while telling them he is "teaching them" how to have sex and be a good young lady for their future husbands.

One may say...why isn't this person in jail? While he did go to jail for other offenses, these offenses somehow escaped the statute of limitations in Illinois somehow and he was acquitted of the charges similar to the other alleged pedophile, abusive Bishop I have featured both on this blog and in various related podcasts. Click HERE for the links to that information.

The amazing thing to me is that after having advocated for survivors of this terrible sin for years, and seen offenders exposed and judged by God, is that some offenders somehow yet believe that they will escape judgement. They believe that their acts of abuse will never be rehearsed. In other words, they are PULPIT ATHEISTS, who DO NOT BELIEVE GOD, nor do they believe that God's word is true, and that he will stand for the least of them, his children! These fakes seek to present themselves as heroes for one reason or another, but are really the scum scraped off the bottom of commercial garbage heaps.

Some say, "you don't sound like a preacher of redemption"...maybe not...but they didn't sound or look like preachers of redemption when they were raping, abusing, sexually violating and defiling these young ladies and boys now did they??? None of them, including the defiled, illiterate, ungodly and demonically bound parents, and church folk who knew the whole story, but stopped nothing, failed to sound the alarm, and supported these abusers neither sounded or acted like anyone "of redemption" did they???

We seem to offer more excuses for inaction, and tend to resist them bringing deliverance and re-abuse those who have survived these horrific acts of Godless men and in some cases women.

Victim's Advocacy Is Not Dead

While we get ready for yet another election in COGIC, I do need to remind you, that even though I know of no candidate who has undertaken a serious look at victim's advocacy, or taken serious action  in support of survivors of church related abuse and sexual abuse, VICTIM'S ADVOCACY IS NOT DEAD YET!

What we will see from this blog, as long as it continues, is continued advocacy for those who have been hurt and abused and continued support for those who have suffered and survived this sin straight from the pit of hell.

Families, sons, daughters, wives and husbands need freedom from what sexual abuse and molestation has done to them. It has shaped some ideals that seem inescapable, some passions that seem to be to great to overcome and some depression that seems to be too low to move through from day to do...All I would say and continue to say is LOOK UP...because your REDEMPTION DRAWS NEAR!!!!

God WILL make a way for you. He will and can take the seemingly destroyed pieces that you have received, and build the most glorious place of refuge for you and your family...GOD CAN...AND GOD WILL!

Closing Prayer:

FATHER, I pray for all them that read this and participate in this blog, that you will strengthen them by your power and might. I pray that you will heal the pain of the soul that some have experienced with your stripes of redemption, and that you will lift hearts above and through the sin of abuse, rape and molestation and help these survivors find higher and greater hopes, aspirations and abundant life...I pray that you will activate the gifts of those holding, receiving and ministering to those who have been hurt, suffered and drained from these egregious sins. I pray that like a mighty  DUNAMIS wind you would use us to charge, energize and call souls back to life and let them live free as never before! Replace despair with hope, strength, love and isolation with vibrant community. Let them know that God's children are blessed...that God's children shall be blessed and strengthened and God's children are in your hands, and you are a very present help and healer in this time of need...Heal them, love them, care for them, and raise them up again...and blaze a bright path of freedom and we enter into a new day filled with joy, laughter, freedom and PARAISE...We will be careful, to give you ALL praise, for YOU are the author and finisher of our faith and in you we are never alone. To you, all praise and honor.
IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY!

AMEN!!!

Heal SOMEBODY today!!!

Blessed!!!

Pastor's Call For National Victim's Advocacy Associates

"Church leadership, the lawsuit says, failed to properly screen associated church leaders for criminal and sexual misconduct. They also failed to institute a system in which victims could file formal complaints
against abusive church members.
"

This was from an article in 2020 that exposed the sexual abuse of a COGIC Pastor(s) in New York. Everyone loves to sound courageous. We are seeking servants of Christ who are looking to do more than sound good. We are not seeking individuals who believe sexual abuse within the church is a matter of "family", or that resolution of the issues should be  "kept it in house". We are seeking them who wish to make a stand for the hurting and ultimately make a difference.

BREAKING:

VICTIM'S ADVOCACY

Supt. Harvey Burnett
IMBKCAC Founder/Director
Pastor Harvey Burnett is currently calling for volunteers to be a part of a national movement in support of survivors of church related sexual abuse.

"It is time to take victim's advocacy to another level and do all that we can to heal the hurting and hold those responsible accountable."

I Am My Brother's Keeper Christian Advocacy Council is seeking saved, spiritually mature and committed men and women (minimum 24 years of age) interested in sexual abuse prevention within the context of the church and in presenting appropriate and proper ministry towards those who have been victimized or suffered church related abuse to assist in helping individuals regain their faith and a sense of normalcy.

COGIC Issues Pt. 4..."A Man's Church And A Man's World"

I hope and trust that all the Saints of God and readers of this blog had a happy and joyous Thanksgiving and are having a happy and joyous Holiday season.Yes, we all have so much to be thankful for and I am thankful for the service you render to God and your continued prayers!

Sometimes our plans for ministry are altered or changed from the very beginning. There are many things that we don't start off wanting or desiring to do. (step up Jonah and testify) It is always much more easy to comply with the will of men, some of whom are convinced that they hold the key to the personal and spiritual success of others. From a biblical standpoint, we should be reminded that only God grants favor and only he promotes, sets down and raises up, and that is ONLY according to HIS purpose and will as HE deems fit.

With those things noted, still at times, we are thrust into situations according to God given and God directed convictions on issues. Many of us recognize this constraint toward truth and the fulfillment of purpose as the "calling of God".

The Call Within The Call

1 Cor. 7: 20-24 ~ 20-Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. 21-Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. 22-For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant. 23-Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. 24-Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

Desiring for individuals to be healed from the dreadful pain and disease of clergy and church related sexual abuse is no less than a calling of God for me. Focusing on the healing of those who have suffered and been victimized as a result of church related and clergy sexual abuse is nothing that I set out to do or accomplish when I acknowledged the call of God in my life some almost 27 years ago.

The Genesis Of Church Related Abuse

Reflecting on the statements of Bishop Talbert Swan in THIS POST as he addressed a particular Elder that had a sharp critique of his message, brought my mind back 180 to the issue of church related abuse and advocacy for survivors of such abuse.

The Anatomy Of Abuse

Abuse has a plot, or pathway that must be undertaken. That plot exists regardless of the type of abuse. Both sexual or nonsexual abuse follow similar paths...The perpetrator  seeks to exalt themselves, while simultaneously demeaning his victim and others that could be positioned to assist. Abuse is often interpreted initially as bullying, and certainly may have elements of bullying, but goes a step further into consistent derision of character and downgrading the character, intellect and personal ability of the subject.

Then...there is the theme of abuse which is delivered on the basis of multiple lies...the lie is that the perpetrator has great power, insight and authority, and that authority is inescapable and is the final word on the issue. The lie that, as the Borg say, "resistance is futile"..."no one will believe you"...then the lie of lack of self sufficiency, that the victim can not make it on their own and their efforts are not enough to create self sustainability.

Then, within the structure of abuse, the abuser must capture and diminish the psychological strength of the victim. The abuser wishes to live rent free in the mind of their victim. The goal is to create a false sense of connection that the abuser then uses to deprive the victim of any sense of value or self sustainability. Most individuals that have suffered abuse and abusive behavior struggle with feelings of adequacy(self esteem), anxiety and trust. This is by design of the abuser, because the abuser wants his victims to "trust" him above everyone else and feel as if they can't make it on their own or at the very least without the approval of the victimizer.

Church Related Abuse?

Yes, this type of abuse is solidly within the church. The problem is that most individuals abused can't discern their abuse, nor decipher the actions of their abuser in many cases. Many tend to write abusive behavior off to "personal preference". What makes this even more pervasive, is that many abusers within the church are persons of otherwise good behavior and personability, but have learned abusive behaviors from others and have come to emulate the abusive behavior to which they were exposed. They implement the abusive behavior that they were taught, which in most cases was affirmed to them as the "right way" to do things.

According to current studies, 95% of all abusers use psychological tactics to perpetrate their abuse and their victims are 3.5 times more likely to abuse others in a similar manner. ~ NIH 2019

Haiti ~ Did God Do This?

Over the holidays I decided to tackle some of the more difficult assertions that the New and Reformed atheists are setting forth these days. You know those assertions that seem to make sense on the surface but fall apart upon examination? In this post, which will also be followed by an upcoming radio podcast, I plan to do just that.

My heart goes out to all of the many thousand men, women and children who are suffering through the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake. I have been in prayer most of the day as I have read the reports and God quickened my spirit to speak to those of us who also now travail for these our fellow human beings. Please let's continue to pray for them now.

The Tragedy

In what can only be described as one of the worst tragedies imaginable, we observe Haitian devastation that has shaken many of us to our core:

In what is one of the most devastating natural events in recent history, it is estimated that an earthquake with a magnitude of at least 7.0 hit Haiti along the fault line, known as the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault zone. The quake shook Haiti claiming what preliminary estimates say could be hundreds of thousands dead.

Its currently reported that Haiti consists of approximately 9 million people 80% of whom are Catholic, and that 1/3 of its population is said to be directly and severely affected by this devastation. There is an outcry from all sectors of society. The wealthy and the poor have suffered extremely in this devastation. The Prime Minister's palace, which once stood proudly in regal and grand fashion, has been destroyed and cast aside similar to a rickety shacks and inadequately built homes that housed over 60% of this population.

The devastation has also effected those that are in Haiti to help others in large numbers. A group of approximately 800 physicians and medical service personnel, named Doctor's Without Boarders, whose top mission is to provide humanitarian medical services to the destitute, has itself been stricken, leaving most of its staff unaccounted for and and all of it's locations nonfunctional.

Neither religious nor secular humanitarian leaders have been spared the effects of this devastation by any means. The Roman Catholic Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot, 63 was found dead in his office and UN Leaders such as Heidi Annabe along with at least 100 other UN employees and officials are missing and feared to be dead also.

COGIC 110th Annual Holy Convocation: Still Asking For Victims Advocacy

With a 2017 theme: "In This Changing World Let Us Hold On To Our Unchanging Faith" The Church Of God In Christ (aka: COGIC), one of the nations largest Pentecostal/Holiness denominations, prepares for it's 110th Annual Holy Convocation Nov. 6 - 14th 2017. The Convocation is the pinnacle meeting and gathering of the Saints of COGIC from all over the world to celebrate the glory, power and majesty of Christ through the year and in every place.

Though the gathering is a celebration of God's goodness, there is a business element particularly at the end of the successive days of worship in which the General Assembly, the church's ONLY rule and law making body, consisting of certain member delegates and leaders, gather to discuss certain matters of church business and operations. What we can be assured of is that "Victim's Advocacy" is NOT on the General Assembly agenda for 2017 which is somewhat discouraging to I Am My Brother's Keeper Christian Advocacy Council (IMBKCAC) founder Supt. Harvey Burnett New Bethel COGIC of IL. 3rd Jurisdiction. Supt. Burnett has advocated for victim's advocacy with an element of independent oversight for a number of years in light of past and present allegations of clergy and church related sexual abuse and sins. In a recent letter to Presiding Bishop Charles E Blake Supt. Burnett stated the following:
"Quite frankly, I find it hard to believe that as a church we are taking the welfare of victims seriously when nearly every measure that has been taken to "prevent" sexual misconduct provide, if not instruct, the alleged perpetrators of the crimes on their due process rights and basically how to secure themselves and their ministerial futures."
Supt. Burnett goes on to say:
"One would think that in light of the serious fallout and devastating effects of sexual perversion that have been displayed on the news, that our organization would take the lead in dealing skillfully with survivors and seek to assure the public that our churches are a safe place for all worshipers, and for those recovering from all forms of abuse. However, to simply say such means little if we are not carefully, thoroughly and honestly evaluated."
Without a doubt the mission of COGIC to the community is at its zenith. However, the mission is preformed at a time when allegations of sexual abuse are rocking Hollywood, institutions of higher education, politics, the business community and nearly every facet of American life. It would certainly seem that the issues pertaining to abuse are not going away anytime soon.

To suggest that the church is not reflective of the community that it serves is more a sign of wishful thinking than reality. The unfortunate fact is that some churches feel that they can self-administer their own brand of healing when sexual abuse occurs and many feel that they do not have to be accountable to the larger community and group to which they are a part. Therefore, many issues pertaining to the healing process of those victimized are often reduced to methods similar to trying to close a gaping wound with band-aids.

What Can We Do?

What we will do is set forth a solid agenda in General Assembly in 2018. I would say as a people and members that we should begin to call more loudly for healing for those who have been victimized and a better and member centered victim's rights and advocacy platform.

If you are a survivor of sexual abuse, I would advise that you DO NOT take a settlement in which you waive your rights to speak on the incident or on your experience. Silence or confidentiality agreements are a further affliction of pain and exemplifies cultural abuse. When it is thought that money can be exchanged for personal freedoms, there is a problem on both sides of the issue.

We will live blog some of the events next week so please stay tuned right here.

Blessed!

The Unjust Social Justice Of Bishop Talbert Swan II...Things That Make Us Go...Hmmmmm

The Dunamis Word has been at what we do for quite some time. We have answered our call and taken our place to hold up the light of truth against the ever dim and dark culture of both the church and the world.

As I have stated in a previous posts, outside of continuing to encourage my church, the "Grand Ole" Church Of God In Christ, to adopt a true Victim's Advocacy Plan and policy, taking the healing and restoration of survivors of sexual abuse seriously, I am not obsessed in the least with what goes on in this church, or with who is doing what.

But This Caught My Attention...

In 2015, under former Presiding Bishop Charles E Blake, Bishop Talbert Swan II was appointed the leader of COGIC Social Justice and operates through the COGIC Office Of Public Policy. During the 117th Annual Holy Convocation Bishop Swan was seemingly reaffirmed as the head of "Social Justice" by current Presiding Bishop J Drew Sheard.

A quick look at his BIO, it is clear to see that Swan is very outspoken on the internet, television appearances, radio, which is not bad, IF he actually represented positions that a holiness church could be proud of.

For example, not only is he the
National Chaplain of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc, a secret society, which, at least in my 40 plus years of being associated with this church, we decried...but he is also one that seems to follow the path of blaming those who see abuse for abuse...I mean he railed against every Youtuber and others who see the inequities they see and discuss it over the internet.

After listening to him and reading some of his commentary on issues invarious forums in which he appears, it is obvious that Swan is a politically left leaning liberal and advocates for positions that most left leaning liberals advocate including railing against MAGA, Conservatism and pro DEI, abortion and many of the more popular socialist and Marxist inspired ideas and values that exist today.

Social Justice...Liberalism vs Conservatism

What we need is a fairness and clear direction as it comes to "Social Justice", since we are evidently seeking to be in that space as a church. We should come to an agreement with an approach that includes both liberal and conservative voices, views and issues because this church does not represent one side of the spectrum of perceived and real "justice" by its racial makeup.
  • Some of us believe that the abortion of babies is unjust...
  • Some of us believe that overlooking them that have suffered at the hands of pedophiles and sexual abuser's within our church is unjust...
  • Some of us believe that the illegal immigration and those that fight for such and against the efforts of ICE and enforcement agents is unjust...
  • Some of us believe that the church's assault and policy to strong-handedly confiscate churches at the death of a Pastor is unjust...
Does our Office of Social Justice exist to advocate for or against for any of those things?  Does COGIC Social Justice represent ALL the church or just part of the church?

Like many, it seems that in his effort to silence those of us who are vocal about what we see within the church, and unafraid to speak to the issues, that Talbert Swan has opened the door for many to take a more close and more meticulous look at him and what he is actually saying to represent the church and those of us who do not agree with many of his positions.

Image, Assets & Liability Pt. 2...The "Shuffling" Bishop

Toward the end of the song "Party Rock Anthem", by LMFAO (please don't ask what the acronym represents), there is a character which appears to be Jesus doing the dance called "shuffle". I am unsure if this was a subliminal message directed toward the church or not, but it is very clear that the representatives of Jesus through the corporate body called the modern "church" have been "shuffling" for quite some time.

The unfortunate part is that it seems the church has been "shuffling" and protecting their worst, while exposing and leaving the innocent to danger and confusion. However, it would seem that that day, the day of irresponsibility, is over:
"Cover up child sex crimes and you'll go to jail. Not house arrest. Not community service. Not a fine. You'll be locked up. It says, loud and clear, that child sex crimes are taken extremely seriously, and will be punished as such," Joelle Casteix, Western Regional the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests Director CNN 6/24/2012

California Wildfires

Already, in 2025, the Southern California wildfires have taken everyone's attention. In addition to the loss of life (currently at 24 individuals at the time of this writing, with 16 persons missing) and amount and type of land that has been burned, has taken everyone by surprise.

The latest stats are as follows:

Eaton Canyon
Having begun on Jan. 7th, the fire has burned over 14,117 acres the fire is only at 15% containment. 7,000 structures damaged or destroyed and 2,832 people assigned to the fight.

Palisades
The Palisades Fire began in the Pacific Palisades area of the city on Jan. 7th. It is at 23,707 acres in size with 11% containment. At least 5,613 structures have been destroyed which includes 426 homes, with at least five people confirmed killed.
Hurst
The Hurst Fire in Sylmar, northwest of San Fernando, began on Jan. 7th and has burned 799 acres. It is at 89% containment.

It is expected that over 500,000 students within Los Angeles County will continue to be out of school and the expansion of fire due to weather risk extends beyond mid-week.

Is This The Judgement Of God?

The largest question that has arisen within the Christian community has been, "Is this fire the judgment of God?"

To address this issue, I believe that we must first observe the fact that wildfires in the West have long been devastating claiming many homes, acres and lives over the years.

Examination:

Interestingly enough, in 2023 although there were comparatively more wildfires (55,571), this year presented the least amount of acres burned since 2000. (approximately 2,633,636 acres) In 2024 there were 61,685 wildfires and 8,851,142 acres burned. which is the 2nd lowest total since 2012.

Aug. 8th 2023, on the island paradise of Maui, Hawaii in the city of Lahaina, over 114 people were killed, 2,700 structures destroyed and over 1,000 acres of land burned in a fire of epic proportions which began with high winds and a downed power line. SOURCE

In fact in 2023, I remember that the air quality due to American wildfires and sudden Canadian wildfires, became so bad in the Midwest that we were under air quality alert for quite some time. SOURCE Many people, including myself, suffered from the poor air quality during that time and some continue to suffer from issues encountered during that time even today.

The REAL Question....

"Since these fires have devastated what has otherwise been known as strongholds of liberal thought and lifestyle of the rich, and many of who disdain God and Biblical morality, could these fires possibly be the judgement of God?"

In all of this, over 130,000 people and over 30 Hollywood and entertainment celebrities and their families, have been forced to evacuate their homes, devastated by what is now known as the Southern California wildfires.

Actors and actresses, the ultra wealthy, and lauded celebrities, ranging from Paris Hilton to the Kardashians, to Mel Gibson and John Legend have been made homeless due to these devastating fires and the battle has only just begun with their insurance companies.

Because many of these individuals hold and promote liberal views, many Christians have sought out to say that these fires prove that God is sick of the ultra wealthy and the ultra liberal views that many of them have embraced.

Now, all of those things are considerations that one can undertake, but are those sentiments Biblical and do they pertain to this case and the results of these fires?

I mean, look, this blog certainly doesn't uphold liberal or open morality and or anti-biblical views. Our readers are strengthened because we uphold the Bible, Biblical inerrancy, and Biblical morality.  However, we also speak out against fanaticism, religious or otherwise. We abhor the desire to see anyone suffer, or the desire to see anyone murdered or killed (including political figures) and it be called "the judgement of God"...

The Dunamis Word, certainly doesn't hold the judgement of the ungodly or any experience in which there is loss of life and or material, a badge of honor for us or anyone to flaunt. We don't place God on the platform of a social vigilante. God is God. He is a savior and a true judge and he raises up one and sets down another at his bidding (Ps.75.:7) and in his due time for his own purpose. All them that have embraced evil, will be handled. The whole world is ultimately subject to his will.

With that said, it amazes me to see how many, alleged Christians, can view destruction, loss and suffering of others who have views of morality that they oppose, as an opportunity to point towards and uphold their own self-righteousness, and further use the suffering of other individuals as an opportunity to contend that "God is speaking" and, I suppose, because the wealthy suffer, "God now means business" and we suddenly need to listen more intently.

Reexamination Of Truth

Without a doubt God is not pleased with what we have allowed America to become in the name of "freedom". However, the wealthy and ultra elite are not the only ones to blame for this. It is the common folk, the poor folk and some alleged religious folk, who will pay for those sins and the proliferation of sin in the world as we will discuss.

Yes, we will pay a price as a nation for over 63 million murders of babies through and by abortion. Yes, we will pay a price for the promotion of homosexuality and now the normalization of transsexuality which encourages the mutilation of children. Yes, I could name many sins, that America has embraced, actions, ways and moral positions that are against God and godliness, and totally unworthy of his blessings...However, with all of that said, God's WORD affirms:

Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? ~ Ezek. 33:11

While Ezekiel stops short of saying or speaking about the possessions of the wicked being destroyed, we can safely say that this verse illuminates the nature and character of God as it pertains to the loss of anyone, due to wickedness or evil. The greatest gift is that those who are evil or wicked will turn to God and repent from their evil. However, many are so attached to their evil and the material by which their evil is upheld, that they do not turn to God and refuse to submit themselves to God and that is the real tragedy.

The problem is that too many of us (alleged Christians) assume that these celebrities are not saved, or do not have favor with God, simply because they are celebrities. Believe me...I believe that every tree will bear or show it's own fruit, but there can be a real problem viewing people through a human lens of righteousness, rather than through a Biblical lens of righteousness, which we are required to do.

Revealing Facts

To be truthful, in our holiness church, yes, the Grand Ole Church herself, I have shared the pulpit with some who believe many more liberal things, even if unspoken, than many of these, now homeless and allegedly "judged celebrities" ("judged" according to some)...Believe me, I don't exclude the fact that God is speaking to many of the celebrities who never though that they would or could ever experience such devastation. I don't doubt that God is using their loss as a tool to cause an examination of life and ultimately repentance, but let's tell the truth. We have men in pulpits within many Christian churches who are pedophiles (now Minor Attracted Persons...a SINNER by any other name...) and others who are serial adulterers, fornicators, undercover homosexuals and more...

I know of individuals, some popular Bishops, who have reached out for help and freedom from homosexuality allegedly on behalf of their "friends" or alleged "associates"... In addition, as I have interviewed and shown over the years, there are some individuals who have never repented of their sins and continue in pulpits and even in leadership using statute of limitations laws as a cover for their sins.

Are their homes being burnt down? Are they homeless as a result of their sin and evil? Does God not wish to judge them, while focusing on entertainers some of whom have more moral views than these pulpit and ministry hypocrites???

I really don't mean to sound harsh, but when God begins to judge, his first judgements will be at the House of God...is that not what the WORD says?

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? ~ 1 Pet. 4:17

Our obedience to the Gospel will be tested. Our faithfulness and fidelity to God is the primary focus of our Lord and savior before he sets the world straight for her sins.

God's Judgement Offers Clarity Of Voice

One thing is for sure...when GOD SPEAKS he let's the whole world, and the individuals he is speaking to, know that he is speaking and that he has spoken.

* Noah, spoke for over 100 years warning the people while he built the Ark of God that there was going to be judgement upon the land and the people for their evil and wickedness.

* Although this was not an act of judgement, God spoke to Abram in Mesopotamia, an area filled with idolatry and much demonic influence, but his voice was altogether so clear until Abram changed his life and the life of his family at the voice of God. (Genesis 12) Later, in an act of judgment  God spoke clearly again to Abraham regarding the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, even sending angels to pronounce his intents prior to the destruction.

* When God judged Egypt through Moses, this was not done in secret. God commissioned Moses to speak on his behalf and promised that when Moses spoke and raised the rod, he, God, would respond and be faithful to uphold his word and actions. (Ex.3)

* God spoke so clearly that Israel heard his voice in the wilderness and saw his acts and understood his displeasure when they sinned.

* When God Judged the enemies of Israel, he spoke clearly allowing the people to know that it was he, GOD, doing the judgement. Do you remember Nebuchadnezzar and his ultimate confession that Daniel placed within his narrative in the 1st person? (Dan. 4:36)

* How about David when he was judged by God? Was Nathan silent and did David not know that God was not pleased with his actions and acts before judgement was carried out? (2 Sam. 12)

Now, one could say that warnings have been sent to Hollywood, and that the elite and their works have been revealed and their sins are calling for the reprisal of God. I would certainly agree and do not disagree. The true church has been proactive in speaking to the elite and telling them that their sins and what they promote is certainly before God. They have been preached to and many of them, as well as many ordinary "work a day" Americans, have heard and rejected the truth. However, is their experience, and what we are seeing, a "judgement"? Or is this an opportunity to pause, consider one's ways, dump immorality, repent and be saved???

A Precursor To REAL Judgement And Utter Destruction

What I contend in this article is that what we are witnessing is the precursor to the actual and real judgement that God will bring upon this nation for her sins and evil. God will bring judgement at an appointed time, just like he brought judgement upon Israel for her sins and evil at HIS appointed time.

We need to understand that there is no amount of wealth or material existence that will save anyone from HIS judgement and ultimate accounting and reconciliation of all things. Lavish living, is not the key or the problem...the love of the world is the issue. (1 Jn. 2:15)

The belief that money exempts one from suffering or that the wealth and accolade of the world somehow places one above others, is called pride and the very look or appearance of pride God hates and ultimately judges. (Prov. 6:16) Why? Because this type of pride (which has little to do with being happy for material success)  suggests and even states explicitly that God is not essential to personal success and being subject to HIM is something either unnecessary or something that a human can dole out according to their will, not HIS. Therefore man exalts himself above God and creates moral relevance that suits himself and is not subject to God in any manner.

Further Scriptural Insight

Apostle Peter says some very interesting things about the judgement of God along with Paul to Timothy and Paul to the church at Thessalonica.

In 2 Peter 3:10-13 Peter says:

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Drawing from Zephaniah 1:14-15, Peter associated God's ultimate judgement with "The Day Of The Lord" which comes suddenly, quickly and without warning, "as a thief in the night". Peter does not exclude any pre-judgements that God may make to correct evil and reconcile any wrongs, but here Peter deals with final judgement or the "end of the word".

As Zephaniah suggests, this "Great Day" will not be something seen or witnessed on CNN, FOX, MSNBC or any other television network, radio service or internet or other social media site. When his judgement arrives, it will arrive with a sound and inexplicable and unstoppable actions, along with heat and fire that will change the very nature of existence itself beyond repair.

Jesus builds upon this in Matthew 24:26-44 by stating that the everyone would know and see or experience HIS coming, (v.27) and that the church should simply "be ready" (v.44) for the day of the Lord and that when we don't expect that he will come, for whatever reason, he will be there.(v.44)

In Revelation 16:13-14 John presents a vision of demonic and lieing spirits that proceed from the mouths of the dragon, the beast and the false prophet, in effort to convince humanity to fight against God as he comes visibly, to the world on that "Great day" or the day of judgement.

After the judgement of God, there will be no human will to rebuild or hope that one can escape. When God makes his judgement, not only will every wrong be accounted for, but death and hell will ultimately be cast into the Lake of Fire forever and there will be noone to oppose the will of God.

When The REAL and FINAL Judgment of God comes, it will be inescapable.

The fires we now witness are a reminder of what judgement will do, what it will be like and what hell is...These fires are a reminder and an encouragement for humanity to get it right, in light of what hell is and what it will ultimately mean to all them who forsake God...As property is being lost, most of which is beyond repair, hell is also the place of total loss and abandonment, the place where their is no hope and the place where material possessions or worldly comforts cannot save, protect, heal and or set one free.

I believe this is the message of the fires for now...GET RIGHT...GET READY...BECAUSE THIS AIN'T YOUR HOME, AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE OR WHERE YOU LIVE, NONE OF THIS BELONGS TO YOU. THE WORLD BELONGS TO GOD, EVEN MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR HOUSES AND LAND.

Even so come Lord Jesus!

Blessed

Do We Still Believe In Punishment & Restitution For Theft Or Crime In General? What Of REPARATION?

Proverbs 6:30-3 ~ Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

Looking at the news today, among many other things, which will go unnamed here at this time, we can see much animus against many of the George Soros backed liberal prosecutors around the country who have refused to do their jobs and protect their community from criminals who are bent on destroying lives and using the system as a revolving door to commit more crime and violence.

In Chicago, like many other major cities, not only can you fake an actual hate crime and nearly get away with it, in fact have the prosecutor argue with the judge over your sentencing, but even when thieves are caught, smash and grab crimes are barely even challenged. You have young people and others who see an opportunity to bust in stores, steal jewelry, and other items and merely run out and do what they will do. During the riots of 2021, because most were not protests, a young looter said that he felt justified by taking clothes and other items from the stores he was targeting because they had been "making money off my community" for years without giving anything in return...[I would say, YESSSS...if it weren't for the jobs, taxes for the services they were enjoying and the resources that he was taking...YEA!!!]

Then switch to California who has about the worst Governor in history, outside of the one in Illinois and the "God's messenger" one of New York, current robberies are hitting business owners many of whom are struggling to pay adjusted insurance premium rates. After these incidents, many insurance companies are cancelling policies and coverage due to increased and excess risk. Then, in many cases, when these thieves are caught, no matter how much is stolen, criminals are usually released on bond, given a court date and many of them refuse to show up. Some make it to the dreaded traffic stop, where a quick search leads to either death or another quick catch and release event...(well may as well tell it like it is)

 Then There's The Church

To think that crime has escaped the church, or what some call "the church", you would be delusional. Recently, Pastor or Bishop Lamor Miller-Whiterhead and church were robbed at gunpoint. Critics said it was "due justice" for the church robbing the community every Sunday. {WEEEEELLLLL} Back to the issue...Allegedly, this Bishop and church were lifted of nearly $1MM in jewelry on a Sunday AM with about 25 people present in the congregation. I think I could say more, but it seems that this situation speaks for itself, although I can readily add that I have never taken more than $100 to the pulpit at any one time, in most cases...Oooooh question: DO CHECKS COUNT?

Anyway, it seems that thieves do not care, where or when they do the thievery or their crime of choice, and increasingly they don't care about the consequences. It seems that if we leave it up to the liberal elite politicians and community advocates who always invariably have plenty of security, and locks and chains on their personal possessions, low life peasants, such as me and millions of others like me, have no justice, recourse or equity in return.

Have They Learned? A Deeper Issue...

While all of this is intriguing and the news focuses ad infinitum on every criminal and prosecutor who doesn't do "right"...the real problem is that this behavior has been learned by the way America has conducted her business since the Emancipation Proclamation was signed and slaves were freed.

RESTITUTION

The case of US Army Veteran Jessica Elaintrell Smith, who, along with co-conspirators, plead guilty to stealing military equipment and selling it on EBay for profit. Although she was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 2 additional years of probation for her crimes, she was also ordered to pay RESTITUTION to the tune of $1.2MM and must meet certain minimum payment requirements even while in prison.

This young lady faced her sentence with courage and stated the following:

“I know my apology does not absolve me, but I will seek forgiveness from everyone involved, and forgiveness from myself,”

In other words, it seems that this young lady understands that the commitment to do right is contained in more than just words. That actions must somehow be associated with them.

In Analysis

So here, we have in one case among many thousands, a thief who has stolen, and not only is told to serve their time as a result, but also expected to PAY, a physical amount to RESTORE or REPAIR what was stolen and address the injustice that was done to the Government.

DOES THIS WORK BOTH WAYS??? IS THIS MIC ON???

One would be hard pressed to  say that SLAVERY is nothing less than THIEVERY. Yes, it comes with a host of other brutal and dehumanizing issues, but at heart and base, SLAVERY IS THEFT. A theft of person-hood, individualism, labor and remuneration for that labor.

While America remains the ONLY civilized nation to fight a war in an attempt to end slavery and unify a nation [which I'll bet Brittney Griner wishes she would have considered in place of the Communists that she and others like her so admired prior to that 9 year sentence] she (America) has never made good on her RESTORATION and physical REPAIR of her acts that she readily admits were tantamount to evil.

REPARATIONS are a BIBLICALLY based method and manner to address the evil of thievery and other evils.

Germany knows this...Both East and West have contributed $25BB in cash reparations and $700MM in goods and services to pay Israel for the millions of Jewish people that were killed in Germany during the Holocaust and for the nearly 400,000 survivors who migrated back to Israel and other nations needing assistance as a result of Hitler's evil reign. This includes paying a lifetime stipend to those who survived the ungodly and horrible experience.

Wrong was done. An apology was made...but RESTITUTION had to be made as an act of civility and contrition.

What of the descendants of Foundational Black American slaves? The slaves and eventually their descendants called Freedmen? Since payment was overlooked and skirted by them, now their descendants make claim and their grievance known to the government under their 1st Amendment right.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Descendants of Foundational Black Americans, who were stolen and had their labor stolen from them and their descendants until now, are making a PEACEABLE assembly to redress their grievances to the GOVERNMENT of the United States.

If we truly believe that there should be a PENALTY to theft, and that although apologies are good, RESTITUTION is also in order, there is no way that anyone can look past reparations and the request for reparation as a bad argument.

Descendants of Foundational Black Americans don't want reparation simply because we're Black...The nation doesn't exist to endorse a race or color (allegedly)...Descendants of Foundational Black Americans demand and petition the government for reparation because of our lineage, what was taken from our ancestors and what was promised in return, which has not, to this day been fulfilled. It is only right, that this country, the United States Government, who has recently delivered over $1BB in security aid and other sorts of assistance to foreign nations, engage the process for the benefit of these descendants of Foundational Black Americans, who had no other choice but to survive or die under an evil and even cruel taskmaster who was endorsed and supported by our Government with actions commensurate to the day.

By the way...we'll get back to the church in a minute...covid only stopped some of her antics briefly and now people are looking for brighter and better ways to support evil...the sellout of "CHURCH GIRLS" to perverted evil and cussin' DOE...Both you are on the radar...this is so sad!

Blessed!
