Arsenio Hall..."LA Preach Off"...Should We Rejoice Over This?

Phil 1:15-18 ~ 15-Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: 16-The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: 17-But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. 18-What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

I'd like to hear some input on this one.

Blessed!

  1. Did anyone say that one must repent of their sins in order to access abundant life that Christ offers??? I don't know...then what is Deitrick "shackin' up ain't wrong" Haddon talking about with those ear ring plugs in his ears??? Sorry "flasher" I can't get with you in any way...

  2. Well......I don't like the "Dog and Pony Show" staging. I really feel that God's word IS MORE than a contest for fun. You are right that no repentance was mentioned, but we can pray that out of the million viewers (or however many) that saw the show or was there maybe just one heard something that pierced their heart. Maybe, what little seeds were thrown out some might have found fertile ground. We can only pray. God has the power to work all things for good.

  3. LizN,

I agree. I was wondering what was the purpose of it? Maybe preaching is becoming like the singing...we may eventually have a "Sunday's Best Preaching Contest" or some other type of Preaching X Factor. Now, Noel Jones just got out of the hospital. He's got some heart issues. That's why he was overly reserved I'm sure. You can tell some of the others just like the opportunity to show. Deitrick in particularly...hasn't he already shown "enough" on the internet???

Anyway, hopefully someone received some sort of help and direction for their life.

    Thanks.

  4. It reminds me of the "platform services" storefront churches in my community used to have as a kid in the 1960's and 1970's. I never understood that concept then, and I don't really understand it now, except that it appears to be a "preaching contest." I personally have grown dull of hearing when it comes to celebrity preachers. I don't want to stop hearing, reading, and sharing God's word; I'm just not into the personality/celebrity of it all anymore. The popular church has literally "gone Hollywood."

  5. Well, Jones has said that the church is "personality driven" in an attempt to justify his approach in many areas. It is sad when folk can't distinguish between the call of God and anointing and talent or merely a gift of gab.

Now, the question is, can God get the glory, even out of this? Or is this glorifying to HIS name?

  6. The name says it all, " a preach off" as if preaching the gospel is a competition, who can get the crowd stirred up to shout hallelujah the loudest. These preachers have very big ego's, its all about them and not about representing Christ or winning souls as they have said in numerous interviews. Sad day to see things like this in the "church". Im old enough to remember when unsaved people had respect for the things of God even if they refused to serve Him. But thats back when you could tell a saint from an ain't, they respected righteous men/women who stood for Christ and Godliness. These people give ammunition to the argument that "all church folk are hypocrites". My prayer is that those people that really want to serve Christ will not be moved by this foolishness. That they will know that what they are seeing is some made for TV garbage that does not represent true Christianity.

    1. Ego and self exaltation are the killers...Every one caught up in those are oblivious to the first and real mission of soul winning...

  7. Well I know ONE sincere person on this show...Bishop Gibson is an awesome person and a sincere preacher. He is very humble as well. I don't know, but I will pray that he continues to make a difference among these preachers and in his community...more to come on that one...

    1. Pastor I would be interested in your comments on why Bishop Gibson has anything to do with this shameful display of flesh on parade. I too had a great deal of admiration and respect for him before this. I agree with him making an impact upon these preachers if that is what he is doing. But I am not so sure that this is the best forum to do that.

I am concerned about why he would participate in this travesty of a show.

Birds of a feather.... ??? If it talks like a duck, and walks like a duck, its... A DUCK. ?? IDK

As for the rest of the crew of "Preachers of LA", I am not surprised at the lengths they are willing to go for self-aggrandizement.
